A long sentence awaits a thief who has been on strike since 1999

A local man known as “Simin”, who has a long list of previous convictions dating back to 1999, will learn his fate on September 10 after pleading guilty in the magistrates’ court on Saturday to a new series of robberies.

Adi Sukri bin Haji Sulaiman, 47, in the case, committed four counts of robbery, the first carrying a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and the other three counts each carrying enhanced sentences of 10 years in prison , due to the proximity of commission.

Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni ordered the accused to wait in pre-trial detention while considering an appropriate sentence.

Prosecutor Nurul Husna Aqilah binti Haji Abidin revealed in court that it was the first instance in this case that led to his arrest.

At 6:09 p.m. on August 11, as he passed a newsstand in the capital, he picked up a wallet left unattended by a busy salesman. The wallet contained an ID card, ATM card and BND20 cash.

The defendant’s actions were caught on CCTV cameras in the store.

He struck again at 1.40pm on August 12 when he noticed an unattended parked car left unlocked.

He stole a shoulder bag as well as a wallet and its contents; ID card, ATM card and BND10 cash.

The defendant also stole a shoulder bag from a store in the capital at 11:55 a.m. on August 15, where he took two identity cards, an ATM card, a driver’s license, other bank cards, a cell phone, a staff house door access card, MYR150 and BND50. At 12:11 p.m. on August 16, the accused was a spectator in the shops lining the lanes of lorong Gerai Timur in the capital when he saw a person get out of his car to go to one of the shops.

He walked straight to the car, stole a bag containing a cell phone, a gold necklace and a set of car keys.
