BJP lawmakers in Western Odisha have urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to raise the spending limit of MPs from the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) fund to Rs 5 crores per annum.
BJP lawmakers including Jayanarayan Mishra, Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, Kusum Tete, Mukesh Mahaling, Nauri Nayak, Subash Chandra Panigrahi and Shankar Oram have written a letter to the Chief Minister to this end.
MPs said they had been allowed to submit project proposals amounting to Rs 1 crore each per annum, while WODC’s budget was Rs 100 crore per annum. Now, the government has doubled WODC’s annual budget allocation to Rs 200 crore.
Therefore, BJP lawmakers have urged Patnaik to allow every MP in the WODC area to submit project proposals of Rs 5 crore per year so that they can come up with sustainable proposals to benefit the people of the WODC area.
The WODC was established with an objective of overall socio-economic improvement, educational and cultural advancement of the people residing in the region.
The Council comprises 10 districts namely Bargarh, Bolangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Sundargarh and Athamallick sub-division of Angul district.
