Hamid released on bail in foreign funding case – Pakistan

LAHORE: A Special Court (Offence in Banks-II) on Saturday granted bail after the arrest of former Pakistani leader Tehreek-e-Insaf Hamid Zaman in a foreign funding case.

The court granting bail observed that the case against the petitioner required further investigation and therefore the petitioner was entitled to grant him a bail stage.

The court said: “Bearing in mind the contents and material of the FIR collected during the investigation, it is concluded that the application of Articles 468 and 471 PPC requires further investigation.”

The court said during oral argument that it was also noted that the petitioner’s signatures were not available on the checks in question.

The court granted the petition for bail subject to the furnishing of a bond of one million rupees.

Earlier, the Petitioner’s attorney argued that the case was totally bogus and that there was not an iota of evidence to link the Petitioner to any of the alleged offenses in the FIR. He stated that the applicant had already joined the investigation and was no longer needed for the purposes of the investigation.

The FIR alleged that Tariq Shafi had registered a trust in the name of “The Insaf Trust” to give the impression that he was part of the PTI.

He said funding received under the trust was used for PTI political campaigns.

The agency further alleged that the suspects and Arif Naqvi of the Abraaj Group, in collusion with PTI management and others, committed fraud.
