Looking for ex-Cong. minister in the J&K terrorist financing case

J&K police have launched a manhunt to arrest former minister Jatinder Singh aka Babu Singh in a hawala case, with security agencies alleging the money was used to finance terrorism.

“Babu Singh is on the run. He will soon be found. The hidden purpose of the hawala money appears to be funding separatists and terrorism at J&K. The silver trail indicated that it was intended for anti-national activities. More details will only emerge after Mr. Singh is questioned,” Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh told Jammu.

Mr Singh, a Congress leader, was a minister in the former J&K state during the PDP-Congress coalition government in 2018.

Earlier this week, officials said a person, identified as Mohammad Shareef Shah of Larnoo of Kokernag, was arrested in Gandhi Nagar of Jammu following “a specific entry that an unknown person is going to receive hawala money “.

Around ₹6.90 lakh was recovered from Shah’s possession. An official said that Mr Shah, when questioned, revealed that he had been instructed by Mr Singh, currently chairman of the Nature – Mankind Friendly Global Party, to collect money from an Omer in Srinagar.

“After receiving money from Omer, Mr. Shah came to Jammu and was arrested. He disclosed the names of his local and foreign associates, Javed and Khatib, residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Farooq Khan from Toronto,” the officials said.

According to security agencies, Mr Shah was the administrator of a secret Whatsapp group with Pakistani and Saudi members.
