BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has offered seed funding to young faculty members under the “University of Odisha Research and Innovation Incentive Scheme (OURIIP)” to conduct to many innovative and quality research works. From this year, the government will provide Rs 7 lakh as seed funding to selected researchers instead of the existing Rs 5 lakh.
Sources from Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC), which implements OURIIP, said that Rs 5 lakh is not enough for scholars to undertake rigorous research work of two years. “After reviewing the researchers’ appeal and reviewing their application, the state government has increased the amount of seed funding,” a council official said.
Under the plan, any faculty member (under the age of 45) with a doctorate and working in a regular capacity in a state public university or college (governmental and aided) under the Department of Higher Education or the Department of Skills Development and Technical Education can apply for seed funding with an appropriate and innovative research proposal.
The seed funding program will expect the relevant faculty to produce approximately two research publications (at least one in top indexed journals) per year. They will also have to write and obtain research projects funded by national agencies towards the end of the two-year period, the official sources said.
Meanwhile, OSHEC has solicited applications from young faculty members from different state public universities and colleges (government and aided) to conduct research by securing seed funding from the state government. Each year, 40 faculties will benefit from such funding. The last date is June 30.
“We will review and review research proposals and select the best of them. We will select 40 innovative research proposals and award them seed funding,” said Asoka Kumar Das, Vice President of OSHEC.
The board also invited applicants (under the age of 35) who have qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET) from different government agencies, including the University Grants Commission (UGC) no later than 2019, to apply for “Research Fellowship-2022”. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 30.
Selected candidates will receive financial aid of Rs 15,000 per month with a contingency of Rs 25,000 per year for subjects with laboratory work and Rs 15,000 per month for subjects without laboratory work. The number of scholarships in each subject is limited to five.
