Ogun’s waste management assures residents of continuous service

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has assured residents that it will continue to provide a clean and tidy environment despite huge operational costs resulting from the unexpected rise in the pump price of diesel.

The agency’s Director General, Mr. Ola Oresanya, who spoke after watching the June edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Abeokuta, praised the residents for their impressive participation in exercise.

Oresanya, who is also the Governor’s Special Advisor for the Environment, stressed the need for Ogun residents to maintain a cleaner environment and urged them to always put their trash in a bag for easy collection by managers. of waste allocated to their areas.

He noted that the last two months had been difficult for the agency due to the unexpected increase in the pump price of diesel leading to higher operational costs for the agency.

Regarding the challenges of the Saje landfill in Abeokuta, Oresanya said the capital has become clean thanks to the continuous operations introduced to meet the challenges and, therefore, urged residents to refrain from dumping waste indiscriminately.

He further urged residents in areas that are difficult to access by waste collection vehicles to use the medium yellow iron bins placed in strategic and traditional areas of Abeokuta, instead of throwing waste on medians and the edges of the roads.

Oresanya revealed that the waste management agency’s enforcement department would enforce state environmental laws and punish violators.
