KANSAS CITY, Kan. – For five decades, a restaurant in Kansas City, Kansas has nurtured the community for paying customers and those in need. Tao Tao and Chef Owner Annie – celebrate two milestones.
Chef’s 75and birthday and 50and Anniversary of the opening of the doors of Tao Tao. Do it in surprise style.
“Over the years I can count on a smile from you and thank you, thank you so much for being consistent,” one community member said.
A day to celebrate, recognize and appreciate an essential part of this community.
“I hereby claim Saturday, February 12, 2022 as Chief Annie Day and Tao Tao Day,” the mayor of Wyandotte said.
Tao Tao, more than a restaurant to many – a place that feeds those in need without batting an eyelid. But that’s who they are, Chief Annie and her immigrant husband and understanding what it’s like to struggle.
Never forgetting where they come from – and doing their part to support their neighbours.
“It’s like not sitting with a stranger, it’s like walking into a family’s house and talking to an old friend” – said daughter Tina Der.
AS for Chef Annie – through all the day’s celebration, love and show of support, she reveals no secrets.
“It’s very hard work day and night, I don’t tell people how hard I work, I keep it to myself,” Chef Annie said.
More than a chef, simply a pillar of this county for half a century.
“She is the brick and mortar of this foundation of this family of this community. I thank everyone for coming today,” her son said.
We asked chef Annie what she was planning to do tomorrow to recover from all the celebrations today, she said she was back to work!
